Glutathione

Glutathione is the body’s most powerful antioxidant and is integral to a healthy defense system. Glutathione is like a bodyguard whose job it is to take the ‘bullet’ and protect us at a cellular level. We make small amount of this antioxidant but it is easily depleted by stressors such as poor diet, blood sugar imbalances, alcohol consumption, high stress levels, pollution and over-exercising. Glutathione is the main antioxidant for our mitochondria- otherwise known as little factories present within our cells that convert nutrients into energy.

When the body is low in glutathione, our immune system is depleted leaving us vulnerable to chronic inflammation, leaky gut, autoimmune diseases and inflammation. Studies have shown that low glutathione are thought to be implicated in the cause or progression of some cancers, premature ageing, heavy metal poisoning, cardiovascular disease, chronic digestive issues and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Glutathione can not be absorbed orally, therefore IV administration of this antioxidant can be done to ensure your cells have sufficient protection. This treatment is quick, painless and some patients have noticed an improvement in energy, immunity and skin in short periods of time.

Ways to support Glutathione levels within the body

  1. Intravenous Glutathione weekly. Prices start from £75
  2. Reduce stressors that deplete Glutathione such as poor diet, balancing blood sugar, restoring gut health & reducing toxic load.
  3. N-acetylcysteine: NAC is a precursor to Glutathione. Foods rich in NAC include broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus.
  4. Selenium: This essential mineral  is a cofactor in the enzyme that convert Glutathione to its active form.
  5. Milk thistle: This herb has shown to significantly increase glutathione levels and activity.
